Hendon

Hendon Waterside regeneration by Barratt London, is a 2000-unit scheme overlooking the Welsh Harp Reservoir, a short walk from Hendon train station. Blue Chyp have been working with Barratt London on most recent three blocks of this long-term scheme, designed by Allies & Morrison and Makower architects.

The Challenge

At Hendon Riverside, the design intent for the balconies incorporated a large projection and also overhanging cantilevers over the side of the building, while fixing from a thin slab build up. The cill detail was also crossing through the balcony return on a large reveal.

Across the 3 blocks, there was a mix of balustrade designs to give aesthetic variances, but also additional privacy from solid panels.

To meet NHBC requirements the water drained from the edge of the balcony couldn’t be a nuisance to the balcony below and couldn’t drain over the communal entrances.

Our Solution

Blue Chyp were appointed by Barratt London for this prestigious scheme, and with early coordination between the Blue Chyp design and Barratt Technical teams, it was clear there were huge advantages in using Cobalt® Hybrid Balcony Systems.

The weight saving by using an aluminium system, Blue Chyp were able to achieve the large projections and overhangs.
The modular balcony and balustrade design allowed effective offsite manufacture of the balconies, and still give the variation on the building elevation.

To divert the water away from the communal entrances, the patent-pending drainage system was used while maintaining flat flooring and soffits and NHBC compliance.
