Gabriel Square

Gabriel Square was a flagship development for Meyer Homes, built by Higgins Partnerships in the centre of St Albans. A “collection of award-winning townhouses, apartments and duplexes set around a landscaped garden square”.
Blue Chyp Supplied and Installed 128 nr Bolt on Balconies, but also offered accompanying privacy screens, balustrades internally and externally, as well as 80 nr complete off-site manufactured spiral staircases.

The Challenge

The façade was made up of imported French Limestone, and the installation tolerance available for the balconies was +/-2mm. We also had to overcome significant offset from structural slab within the stub build up.

During the early coordination with Higgins Partnerships, we established that many of the Spiral staircase would be out of the reach of the site tower crane and due to site restrictions would only be accessible through the units with limited access.

Our Solution

To work with the tight site tolerances, all of the balconies were modelled in 3D design software and all parts CNC cut. Particular care had to be taken when setting out and installing the first fix stubs.

The Spiral Staircases were made in 3 pre-fabricated units that were small enough to fit through a domestic doorway, but could interlock onsite efficiently and quickly to meet the main contractor’s programme.

The finished project has a unique Mediterranean feel, positioned a short commute to Central London. These high-end luxury Townhouses are complimented by Blue Chyp high quality design, fabrication and installation.
